Spams...

Postby Tarynator on Sun Mar 01, 2015 11:11 am

So it would figure. I upgraded the server which broke some of the PHP stuff including the visual CAPTCHA stuff that was required for a person to create an account.

And as soon as I fixed it... the bots started spamming. Point is that CAPTCHA is now completely useless. So I switched it to some Q&A stuff that hopefully will stump the automated bots. If they start up again, I'll have to try something else. Or just require some authorization to make accounts or something stupid.

I deleted all the accounts and posts related to those spams.

Maybe you should just watch what you sign up for so you don't get spammed.

But it was just a trial offer for viagra... that shouldn't get me on any lists should it?

I've been looking through the PHPbb3 forums on anti-spam methods. There are several websites that just had to shut down since they couldn't keep up with the number of robots that can fill out forms to get in.

And it looks like another one just got in... so I'll have to up the game even more.

Ugh.

Just move your server tower behind a concrete wall in your house. That should help.
